 Literary Symposium

 

The Literary Sub-committee of NCSC organized Literary Symposium for the first time in Calgary on 23 October 2011. The symposium was held on the occasion of 102nd birth day of the greatest Nepali Poet Laxmi Prasad Devkota. In the symposium, different poems and essays were presented for competition and many other poems by Rajendra Prasai, Rishi Bastakoti, Arun Kumar Shrestha, Robin Sharma, Bharat Regmi and  Purna Thapa. Other poems received from  out of Calgary i.e Dr.  Govinda Singh Raut from Toronto, Kushum Gyawali fromToronto, NP Kharpali from Edmonton, Mankaji Shrestha from Vancouver, Bashu Sharma from London, UK  were read out by Dr. Desh Subba, Govinda Upadhyaya, and Naveen Subba. The program was preceded with a sweet melodious recitation by Bibhu Ojha, from a part of Muna Madan, Devkota's most loved one of his works. In the beginning of program, Bharat Regmi, NCSC Vice-President welcomed the participants. NRN Canada President Dr Binod KC, CNCA Vice-President Jhalendra Shrestha remarked that the program was wonderful and it should be continued in future. NCSC President Jagdish Chapagai conveyed vote of thanks to all the participants.

As per the decision of the Evaluation Committee led by Rishi Bastakoti, Deputy Coordinator of NRN Literary Sub-Committee, Ms Sushma Khanal was placed in first position, Bhuwan Parajuli - Second and Ukta Khan Thakuri - Third in poems; similarly Seema Karki - First, Kopila Ingnam - Second and Binda Thakuri - Third in essay competition.
