celebrated on
Saturday,
September 4, 2010;
Temple Community Hal, Calgary. More than one
hundred women were gathered with traditional costumes.

Amod Rimal
hands a cheque from Shell Canada as donation to NCSC
Mr.
Amod Kumar Rimal on behalf of Shell Canada, Calgary handed a
cheque of $1000 to NCSC President Mr. Jagdish Chapagai in a function
at NCSC office on May 3, 2010. The cheque was given as a donation from
Shell Canada to NCSC for purchasing sound system equipment. ..(more).

Educational Program and Nepali New Year Festival - 2067

educational program for youth and children
with the theme “My Country My Pride”
was held on Saturday April 10, 2010 on the auspicious occasion of
Nepalese New Year 2067. The function attended by about 350 community
members and guests was also graced by the presence of

Diversity Mela
On
March 27, 2010, some volunteers from NCSC participated in the
Diversity Mela organized by the Village Square Library. NCSC volunteer
team demonstrated some of Nepal's cultural and traditional pieces such
as kukuri, traditional utensils, attractive scenes and unique
arts and crafts (provided by Kathmandu Travel). There were 10

Annual General Meeting of
NCSC
Annual General Meeting of Nepalese Community Society of
Calgary (NCSC) was held at
Center for Newcomers, Marlborough
on March 7, 2010.
It was at the end of the two year term of outgoing
executive committee
led by Dr Betman Bhandari who presented last two years' NCSC activities and achievements.

Calgary-Nepali Library Established
Nepali Library (Ved-Sangraha) has been
established at the Office of Nepalese Community Society of Calgary (NCSC).
The library was formally inaugurated, in a special ceremony, by Dr.
Desh Subba, the then NCSC Advisor, and Lalita Singh of the United
Calgary on 28 February, 2010. The then President of NCSC Dr. Betman
Singh Bhandari wished the library be properly managed and utilized at

Volunteer support for Wycliffe
(Calgary based Organization) in Nordegg to raise fund
As
part of NCSC ongoing effort to encourage the society members to do
volunteer works for other Calgary based government and non government
organizations, 20 volunteers from NCSC were involved in Wycliffe’s
fund raising program “Race to 2025: Treasure in Asia” which was held
at Nordegg (near rocky mountain village) on February 14, 2010. NCSC

Community Society of Calgary (NCSC) honored Mr. Durga Prasad Limbu and Mrs.
Rupa Limbu, life members to NCSC with Dosalla in recognition of their
dedication, selfless service and continuous support to the Community. Mr and Mrs Limbu have been an integral part of the NCSC

Annual General Assembly

General Assembly of NCSC was held at Pineridge Community Centre, NE, Calgary on

Calgary
The community radio program Matribhumi:
‘The flavor of motherland’ is on air at FM 94.7 every Sunday from 8 AM
to 9 AM. You can also listen to the radio at
WWW.fm947.com. Congratulations to Ram Mishra (Program coordinator),
Sameer Panday and Rojina Upadhyaya for successful launching of Matribhumi.
The program has been launched with objective to foster community
harmony, integration, friendship and unity in diversified community of

Dashain Special |

NCSC Dashain Festival 2009
Dashain, the main festival of Nepalese Hindus was
celebrated in pomp manner in a group attended by more than 300 members
and guests including Nepali speaking Bhutanese and 35 members of the
Engineers of the Brigade of Gurkhas, UK. The program was opened
up with dance competitions among youth and children for which the
winners were given away certificates and prizes. Skilful
performances of Khukuri dance by the Gurkhas and a
Bhutanese youth’s western hip-hop dance and artistic/dramatic
performances attracted the crowd. A desk of the Calgary Public Library
exhibited cultural and children’ books and provided free face painting
and issued membership cards to those who were interested. Members
of the organizing committee are thankful for making this event a
success. Members of the Brigade of Gurkhas, members of Bhutanese
and Calgary Public Library deserve special thanks for their
participation.
